Google Sand Box

What is the Google SandBox?
The Google sandbox is a waiting period that Google gives your website before you can start ranking in the SERPs. This usually happens if your website is trying to rank for an unusually competitive keyword such as sports or video games.

Does it affect my entire site?
No! It only affects a single page, in fact, the rest of your website will be perfectly fine. The page you are trying to rank high in the SERPs may take a while to show up in the search engines due to the ridiculous amount of competition.

How Can I avoid the Google Sandbox?
It is best to try to rank for highly searched, uncompetitive long-tail keywords. By doing this, you will avoid the Google sandbox all together. However, if you decide to try and rank for a short keyword, then you can expect to wait close to 9 months. This can be a real bummer if you are trying to get off the ground, so make sure you try to avoid the Google sandbox.

How Can I tell if Im in the Sandbox?
You will quickly be able to tell if youre in the Sandbox if you are trying to rank for a highly competitive keyword. Just type in your keyword, and see if you can find your URL. If you are spending a great amount of time trying to find your sites URL, then theres a great chance that you are in the Google sandBox.

Are there any tools I can use?
There are tools out there that can give you great long-tail keywords you can use in order to avoid the Google sandbox. I can not really think of a single person who wants to wait 9 months for their business to be up and running, especially if they can start much sooner. Make sure you find great keyword software that helps you to identify long-tail keywords that have little or no competition.

Is your website struggling?

Search Engine Optimization Tips

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a technique employed by webmasters to get more traffic to the site.

Search engine optimization requires a careful keyword analysis and placing these keywords at proper places in the website. I am a professional SEO and in this article I will highlight few important SEO tips that you should follow in order to secure good search engine rankings.

(1) Page design: Dont design a frame based website.

(2) Targeted keyword research and selection: Go to the Overture tool and select the right keywords. Instead of using single words, try using keywords phrases. Focus on niche market. For instance, if you sell antiques, then instead of using antiques as your keyword, use something like Italian antiques brass antiques etc.

(3) Keywords density and placements: It is usually agreed that keywords must be placed at the top more than the bottom of the page. You can check the density of keywords using keyword density tool available online.

(4) Web log analysis: A very important parameter. Analyze your web logs carefully, know what pages are most read, which pages on your site have maximum exit, how much time visitors spent on your site and so on. This will help you understand importance of each page of your website. In turn, this will give you an idea as to which pages need development.

(5)Meta tags- h1 to h7, title, description etc: If you are not good at html, dont worry too much. Fortunately there are many automatic Meta tag creator tools. Use one of these and put on your web pages.

(6) Image Optimization: Heard of alt tags ever? The alt tag is used to assign title and description for each image that is used on the website. Alt tag looks something like this: alt= keywords of the webpage title=title of your site

(7) Directory submissions: As soon as you have booked the domain, submit your site to as many online directories and SEs as possible.

(8) Viral Marketing: Dont forget to tell your friends, family and relatives about your recent achievement!

(9) Link popularity: Link popularity is a measure of how famous your site is on the Internet. Think of inbound links as references to your site. The more the inbound links, higher your website's page rank is. Try building links from high PR sites. You can either exchange links or build one way only. Either way it helps.

8 Steps to A Successful Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Strategy

1) Identification of Target Group & Demographics Locations

The initial step is the identification of your target group - who is the recipient of your message? The end user, or perhaps resellers? How is your target group expected to use the search engines? An experienced Internet user will search the Internet differently than a less experienced user.

Once the target group is identified, we can decide in which market/country this group is most effectively targeted using SEO. The language on your website must be the language of the market in question.

2) Keyword Research

Extensive research into choosing your target keyword list is essential to every search engine marketing campaign.

Choosing the right keywords is the most important aspect of successful search engine optimization. Not only do you want to see your site get to the top, you need that high ranking to be on keywords that people are going to actually search for and who are interested in what your web site has to offer.

3) Search Engine Compatibility

A web site architecture that is search engine friendly will improve both the search engine rankings and site traffic. Rank Visibility's search engine compatibility review results in a list of recommendations that are powerful and yet simple to implement.

Depending on the complexity of a web site, a search engine compatibility Review may be required before we can accurately provide a quotation for the full search engine optimisation of your site.

4) Internal Link Structure Building

Internal link structure is another important factor for good search engine rankings, Search engines like the internal structure to be theme based to determine the relevancy of a site. By having a good navigation structure you will not only make it easier for the search engines to browse your website but, you will also make it easier for human visitors, too. A good internal link structure also helps share the Google Page Rank value equally among all the sub pages, meaning more of your pages appear in the search query results.

5) Manual Search Engine Submission

Optimized pages are hand-submitted to the search engines and directories with detailed attention to unique submission guidelines. Some search engines levy a submission or inclusion fee, which is in-addition to our optimization fees.

6) Pay Per Click Campaign Management

Pay per click advertising (PPC) is a search engine marketing technique that requires you to pay a fee every time someone clicks to your website from an ad you've placed in a search engine's results. The more you agree to pay per click (or bid) for a specific keyword and the more effective your ad, the higher your site will rank in the paid search results.

Google and Overture Pay Per Click programs are the most sought after for Internet marketers for their sheer reach and excellent ROI.

7) Link Popularity Building

Link Popularity is one of the most important features of any search engine optimization process and it is the "Off-Page" Optimization of your website. We search the internet for relevant high ranking category websites and get you linked within them. Our Link popularity building services helps increase Google Page Rank and Improve Search Engine Ranking.

8) Continuous Website Ranking Management

Unfortunately, even if you have a top placement now on search engines there is no guarantee it will be there tommorow. Promotion on Search Engines and their ranking criteria constantly change. One year they are on top of the world and next year they are bought out or shutdown. The field itself is an ever changing world. Our strategies involve planning for search events so that your business sales improve and stay up ongoing over extended periods of time.

Writing for Search Engines Versus Writing for People

The best SEO writing has to deliver information to a human just as well as it pitches keywords to a search engine. Satisfying a search engines appetite for keywords and content challenges the SEO writer who wants to also write effectively for a human. Using keyword-heavy content to entice search engines is a great idea until an actual person gets to the web page and starts reading the repetitive mess.

Avoiding reader turn-off can be accomplished in SEO writing just the same way it is done with any writing. You should compose an article or report that is coherent, organized, and informative. A bunch of hacked out fluff sprinkled with keywords like too much salt on greasy French fries lacks appeal and will not leave your reader with a positive impression of the website.

A good working rule when writing some content that is meant to be high in one or more keywords is to simply write the article while being mindful of the keywords. With this process, you can focus on the mechanics of writing such as engaging the reader, presenting information, and smoothly transitioning between each point. Then after the first or second draft, you can take a look at your keyword usage and begin to analyze density.

Increasing keyword density can be done by using pronouns as little as possible. For example, if you are writing an article about Caribbean cruises, avoid refer to the cruises as they. As often as it is comfortable, write out Caribbean cruises.

Another suggestion for increasing the keyword density does admittedly break a rule of good writing, but not too badly. When editing and polishing a work for publication, writers and editors look to remove wordiness. Unnecessary words clutter the composition and take away from the message. Sometimes, however, when writing for search engines, you can pack in another keyword by using a prepositional phrase that is not really necessary.

In this example, the keyword phrase is search engine. Note how the use of an extra prepositional phrase allows the keyword to be used again without being overly annoying.

Original: The search engine provides the best system for people to find information on the internet.

Modified: The search engine provides the best system with its search engine software for people to find information on the internet.

With even-handed techniques an SEO writer can produce content that appeals to human readers while serving the purpose of attracting search engines with selected keywords. The temptation to sloppily stuff keywords into content instead of making the effort to tastefully blend keywords into a well-written article is counterproductive. Attracting traffic through search engine optimization cannot succeed if the reader is disappointed with the content once he or she arrives. Getting that click from the search engine results page is only half the battle.

She has achieved substantial improvement in her search engine positioning and is now getting organic traffic from keywords relevant to her book titles.

How To Create Multiple Income Streams From Your Website

Creating multiple income streams from your website is a proven marketing strategy. An effective strategy anyone can use to earn a part-time or full-time online income. If you are not currently earning revenue from your site, you could be leaving significant amounts of cash floating in cyberspace.

Significant amounts of cash that can help pay your monthly bills: your rent or mortgage, your car payments, your utility bills or even your hosting costs. Many alert webmasters are doing just that by creating multiple income streams from their site or sites.

Creating these multiple income streams is not a difficult task. Nor is it a lengthy or time consuming one; monetizing your site can be done within a few hours of work.

Here are some effective ways of creating multiple income streams:

1. Affiliate Programs

Joining affiliate programs related to your site is an easy process. Placing html code or java script on your site with your affiliate IDs embedded only takes seconds. I find joining major affiliate networks like Commission Junction, LinkShare, Amazon, ClickBank, Shareasale... to be the most effective. You can quickly find and join affiliate programs related to your site's topics.

Affiliate programs are excellent income producers, all you have to do is supply the traffic or leads and the affiliate company does the selling, shipping and handles all customer interactions. These programs pay on time each month and there are no disputes about commissions. Amazon pays quarterly!

2. Google Adsense

Perhaps one of the easiest way to monetize your site is through Google Adsense. All you have to do is add a snippet of code to your site and Google serves up ads to match your site's content. Getting those checks from Google each month will put a smile on your face. Guaranteed!

3. Sponsored Links

Another simple way to earn revenue from your site is offering sponsored links. Selling links to other sites who want to be listed on your site. Set up a PayPal subscription service, and if your site has a high PR page rank you will have plenty of webmasters more than willing to pay you each month.

4. Banner Advertising

A simple, direct way to earn revenue from your site is to host and sell banner advertising on your site. Bit traditional but still a money producer for high traffic volume sites.

5. List Building

Building an opt-in list of contacts interested in the topic of your site can be one of your most effective income producers. Many webmasters and marketers use followup e-mails to keep in contact with their site's visitors. This does require some work and set-up time, but once you have your autoresponders in place, you can forget about them.

In addition, marketing special deals, joint ventures and offers to your permission based email contact list can be another lucrative income stream for you.

That's just five ways to create multiple income streams from your site. There are many, many more but these are good starting points for any webmaster who wants to monetize their site or sites.

Additional Marketing Tip

Here's my #1 marketing strategy on how to increase your number of income streams:

I use the Long Tail keyword marketing model to create high ranked keyword listings in organic search for profitable keyword phrases on the topics of my sites. First, I use a keyword research tool like Brad Callen's Keyword Elite or an online site Yahoo's Overture to find profitable keyword phrases for my sites.

These tools will tell you how many searches are made each month for a given keyword phrase and also tell you how much marketers are willing to pay for each click to this keyword phrase - as in PPC or Pay Per Click advertising.

The trick is to find low to mid-range keywords or keywords phrases that are profitable but have little competition. Then design a content page on your site to target these keyword phrases and draw in traffic. I use keyword targeted articles which I place on my site and also submit to online article directories like Ezinearticles, Goarticles, Articlealley, among others.

In the resource box at the end of each article, I place my keyword anchor text and links back to my site. As these are competitively low ranked keywords, my content pages usually land on the top positions in the search engines for my targeted keywords within a week or so.

This is a simple effective marketing strategy that feeds targeted traffic into my sites, making them more profitable with each keyword phrase I develop content for on my sites. It is an online marketing strategy that you can also use to booster your multiple income streams from your own website.

Granted, all the above information comes with a disclaimer, the amount of income will usually correlate to how effective you are at marketing your site and how much traffic you can generate. Your different abilities will play a large role in how much you will earn. However, there is no reason why any healthy site getting a decent amount of traffic can't be used to create multiple streams of income. Just cash in!

How Important is PageRank, Really?

Webmasters can spend most of their waking hours doing everything they can to raise their Google PageRank. It is common knowledge that PageRank, which is largely based upon the number and quality of backlinks a webpage has, is an important factor in how well a particular webpage ranks within the Google search results. Since webmasters spend so much of their time worrying about PageRank, an important question is: how important is PageRank, really?

Many webmasters will tell you from experience that other factors besides PageRank, such as keyword density and placement, have recently taken a larger role in website ranking. No one will argue that PageRank has become irrelevant, but there is significant evidence to suggest that PageRank is not quite as important of a factor in website ranking as it once was.

To illustrate this point, I utilized a very useful tool you can find at prlookup.com. The tool returns regular Google query results with one interesting addition they also give the pagerank for every webpage. Thus, you can type in any word or phrase and see the pagerank of those webpages that rank well (or not so well) for that keyword. Looking at the results, you probably notice something almost immediately. Some sites with low PRs do surprisingly well in the results, while some higher PR sites do quite poorly. Some of this difference can be contributed to sheer content that is, how many times, and in what manner, the keywords you entered actually show up on the webpage. Google takes a close look at keyword usage and density in determining ranking. However, some pages clearly have very close keyword densities, yet in some cases the page with the lower pagerank will somehow still receive a better ranking.

Let us take a more quantitative look at this. Taking 20 of the most popular keywords from rankpulse.com (for this particular day), and entering them in prlookup.com, it is possible to get a better feel for the importance of pagerank. Looking at the first five results only, I wanted to see how many followed in order of highest PR to lowest PR. Surely, out of the results for 20 keywords, a good portion of them will display such an order, right? I have listed the number of webpage results that appeared in correct PageRank order for each keyword (i.e. 5 would indicate that 5 out of 5 results were in order of highest to lowest pagerank). You can see the table with results at Google Advisor.

Although limited by sample size, the results indicated that PageRank is not an overwhelmingly dominant component of website ranking on Google. If it were, the average of correct PageRank order for these keywords really should be somewhere around 4 to 5 (the real average was about 2.15). Thus, other factors including keyword density in webpage content, title, and even the URL, play a significant role in webpage ranking. I want to mention that, while looking over these results, I noticed that about 4-5 of these keywords came up with at least one webpage within the first 10 results (first page on Google) that had absolutely no PageRank at all (PR 0). In addition, a couple keywords came up with results with exactly reverse-order PageRanks that is, the first result at the lowest PR and the fifth result had the highest (for example, PR8, 7, 6, 6, 5 or something similar).

So what does this all mean for the average webmaster concerned with SEO? The first lesson is that keywords and other non-PageRank factors can be absolutely crucial. They can put a PR6 site above a PR8 site (if you don't believe me just use the tool I mentioned above). Does this mean that website owners should not worry about links? Not at all. It's just that all the time people spend on exchanging and acquiring links for the sole purpose of increasing PageRank may be better spent developing website content and keyword strategies instead.

As far as keywords are concerned, we discovered that having keywords in the website title and URL can help a site rank much more competitively. Good content tends to have the fortunate effect of both increasing your one-way in-bound links (people like to link to sites they find interesting, thoughtful, informative, or helpful), thereby improving your PageRank, while at the same time producing keyword rich webpages good for both human viewers and search engine spiders.

The take home message here is that PageRank is important, but it certainly is not worth obsessing over; there are many other factors involved in website ranking that should be given nearly equal consideration. In addition, simply building a good website is the best thing you can do to attract visitors, even without a great PageRank. PageRank, however, will likely follow consider it a welcomed byproduct of your hard work.

Keyword Elite - Worth The Money Or Not?

This is my unvarnished assessment of Brad Callen's "Keyword Elite".

More and more people, are using Keyword Elite for their money making keyword research.

Personally, I have used, in the past SEO Elite, Keyword Elite and am, at this time, trying Brad Callen's brand new product, "Affiliate Elite". I have found them all perfect for my needs.

Why? Because they all work, for me!

As you all must have noticed, there is so much hype surrounding most products sold on the internet and some of their sales pages appear almost as long as the epic "War and Peace", but Brad Callen always over-delivers on his ever useful products and they well worth their highesh price. Backup has always been first class, so if you're stuck, help is soon on its way to you.

At this time, Keyword Elite lists five categories. I'll take them one at a time and give you a very brief run down of their points.

1. Create A keyword List
2. Analyze Pay Per Click Listing
3. Select A Keyword List
4. Analyze Keyword Competition
5 Spy On Adwords Competition

Project 1 - Create a keyword list: If you prefer a larger keyword list, Keyword Elite makes it easy. Simply enter a primary keyword, or phrase and choose the search engines. Keyword Elite will generate a keyword list, varying in size from 100 to 10,000 keywords, from Google, Yahoo!, Meta Tags. Plus misspellings, if you wish to include them. WordTracker, or Keyword Discovery, may also be searched, if you have an account with one, or the other. Or both.

A word of warning A very large list, such as 10,000 can take time to generate. Can take a day, or more. This was included to prevent you from being banned, by spacing the queries, as abuse of automatic keyword mining has spoiled it for us. Not to worry though, as you don't have to be impatient until the end before starting work on your masterpiece.

Project 2 - Analyze pay-per-click listings: Also childsplay. Just put in your keywords, then find the most suitable of the search engines. Results may take a little while. While waiting, go into Report View and workyour little tail off there. Look at: Searches, KEI, Total results and searches, cost of Adwords clicks. Campaign numbers AdWords, Enhance, Miva and Yahoo. Loads more for you to tnjoy yourselves there.

Project 3 - Select a keyword list: Saves a lot of time. Really a dictionary of keywords and phrases. 40,000, plus, lists will appear for you. Keyword Elite will format your keywords for broad, phrase and exact matches.

Project 4 - Analyze keyword competition: Keyword Elite displays keyword information for the top 10 sites. Great to find Possible partner web sites.

Project 5 - Spy on AdWords competition: Another great way to make more money from your PPC campaigns. Find the best advertisers and rework their advertisements.

In Keyword Elite, you can easily switch over your findings, from one project to another. This, of course, saves you even more time.

This article has, of necessity, been brief. You'll find more, really exciting details about Keyword Elite, including five great step-by-step videos, showing you how it all comes together, by following the links in the Author's Details, below.

Wordtracker: A Must for a Search Engine Optimization Project

While many factors influence the rankings of a web site, any search engine optimization effort isnt worth even a second of your time without one and single unknown: relevant and competitive keywords.

Lets examine an example: a local moving company decided to optimize its website. It knows (or assumes that it does) that the most popular keywords for their type of business are movers and moving. At a first glance, looks like everythings fine: the keywords seem to be relevant, and should produce good results. However, there are two mistakes made here. The first one is keyword relevancy. Whats the use for our local moving company of people that are looking for movers or moving in Denver, CO, Boston, MA or New York, NY, if they are located and offering services in and around San Francisco only?

Another mistake is keyword effectiveness. Itll take much more time and effort to get top rankings for such popular and competitive general keywords as moving and movers than to get same results for something more specific and relevant, such as movers San Francisco or moving San Francisco. Not only are these keywords more likely to convert visitors to buyers, but also its a much easier and less time-consuming task. If the world we live in consists of atoms, the smallest and most important particles in search engine optimization world are keywords. In fact, theres nothing complicated about them, if one remembers three things about keywords: relevancy, effectiveness and Wordtracker.

Wordtracker.com is an UK based company that offers an irreplaceable search engine marketing service tool: keyword research and analysis. It helps to find and pick keywords that are both relevant and competitive. Relevant mean that the keywords are related to your website, and that these are the words people are typing in Google, Yahoo or MSN in order to find your kind of business. Another important factor in determining a good keyword is its effectiveness. Lets say we have a keyword movers which has a record of appearing in Google search list for 1009 times; there are 15400000 different web pages competing for this keyword. This means that this keywords effectiveness index is 1009/15400000=0.066. This index shows that the keyword is far too competitive and youll probably end up somewhere in the middle of Googles search results if you try to optimize your webpage for this particular keyword.

A rule of thumb is to find keywords that are quite popular and at the same time have fewer webpages competing for them. A good keyword is considered to have an effectiveness index of over 100, although anything in between 10 and 100 can be targeted as well.

Needless to say, without having the right keywords that are both relevant and competitive its impossible to succeed in any search engine optimization campaign. Without knowing your niche words, youll probably end up competing against web sites with thousands of inbound links optimized by search engine optimization gurus and will be lost in millions of search results no one will even ever find out you exist. On the other hand, all it takes to get your web traffic from 0 to couple hundreds a day might be something as simple and cost-effective as Wordtracker.

Where To Find Free CD Burning Software

Technology continues to make giant steps forward. Technology has made it possible to burn your own CDs and DVDs, without resorting to expensive equipment or outrageous charges. Now, anyone can make their own personal music CD with their favorite songs. You can also clone your DVDs so that you have a backup copy or to distribute copies to others. For business people, CD burning is the ultimate way to backup their daily information to prevent it from loss.

The good news is that there are lots of free CD burning software offers widely available on the Internet. Any search will provide you with dozens of choices for free CD burning software. How To Maintain Your Search Engine Rankings Always On Top

If you start a new site from scratch and optimize it starting from onpage optimization up till offpage optimization it will take at least two months to see results.

Obviously there are some exceptions and the reasons are very difficult to identify sometimes. However such factors like the number of competition for your keywords and the type and quantity of links you get all effect how fast you get rankings.

Keep in mind that if you do get a ton of links fast and you get high rankings you need to keep getting a ton of links fast or you loose rankings. That is not realistic, so there is no fast way to get rankings. Getting links which are the core of optimization slowly and steadily will allow your site to rank and keep it rankings if you keep getting links slowly and steadily even after your site is ranked on top.

If you stop getting links, your rankings won't remain always on top. However does not mean you have to keep doing all the work. You may outsource and another advantage is that with your site ranked on top many webmasters will automatically contact you for a link exchange. Apart from that fact, you just have to get some links regularly to maintain your position. You need more links to get rankings than to maintain your site at top.

Older sites are more appreciated by search engines, so as your site gets old you have an advantage as well. The initial steps to get rankings can be classified as a bit tough but the rest becomes much easier.

This is what you need to do once you start getting high rankings:

1) Check that your link partners are still linking back to your website.

2) Add new articles once in a while, although the more you add the better as long as they are articles you create not copied.

3) Add nofollow tags on certain links like terms of conditions, earning disclaimers and privacy policies. There is no need for these pages to rank high in search engines. By putting nofollow tag, search engine spiders ignore them and they do not give them pr, instead they give the pr to your other important pages. If you have a high pagerank website do that and you may see an increase in pr to your other pages.

4) Monitor your search engine rankings for your keywords. If a particular keyword looses ranks work on that keyword. It means get backlinks so it regains position. Use the keyword in the anchor text of each backlink but always change it a bit now and then. Changing a bit means add a word or two different with the keyword. For example if the keyword is blue cars use variations like:

blue cars available
tons of blue cars
blue cars for sale
very fast blue cards

You got the point.

This shows that you can achieve high rankings and it also shows one other important thing to take note of. Choose low competing keywords at first. If you have a new site it is very hard to compete for high competing keywords. Once you gain rankings and pagerank start working on other keywords.

Search engine optimization provides you with monthly free targeted traffic. After initial few months you start getting traffic and then lots of it. People using Google are more likely to buy than those using other search engines so monitor your rankings on Google and aim for the top rankings.

Google is the number one search engine, buyers prefer it simple because it gives the most accurate results.

Article Marketing Your Website

A problem every new website owner faces is getting traffic to their website. This is arguably the hardest and most time consuming part of making your website successful. A problem that a lot of owners face is not wanting to spend money on getting the traffic to their website, but there is an easy way to get targeted traffic to your website for free, and that is through article marketing.

The way article marketing works is the website owner writes an article related to the topic of his website and then submits it to an article directory for publication. Now when the owner submits the article he or she includes a link back to their website in the about the author section at the bottom. There are two good effects that this link brings to the website owner, one in the short run, and one in the long run.

In the short run visitors to the article directory will be searching for information on the topic your article was written about and will click the link at the bottom of the article and go to your website. In the short run this will lead to direct visitors and possibly customers.

In the long run the article that you placed on the article directory will get picked up by other website owners who will place the article on their websites and give you even more links back to your websites. That is why it is important to submit your article to a directory that allows publishing of articles as long as they leave the about the author intact. In addition to that the links back to your website will give your website a higher ranking in the search engines and could possibly give you a long steady stream of traffic to your website.

Now get out their and try article marketing your website. I suggest you submit to the Best Articles Directory.

The Basics of SEO - Some FAQs

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a foreign field to a lot of people. Rarely does a day go by when I don't get asked a few questions on the subject. So I've decided to post this FAQ article in the hopes that it will help people understand the basics, and make them a little more comfortable with the whole domain.

Q: Why are search engines important to me?

A: 85% of all website traffic is driven by search engines. The only online activity more popular than search is email. 79.2% of US users don't go to page 2 of search results. 42% of users click on the no.1 result. For the under-40 age-group, the Internet will become the most used media in the next 2-3 years.

Q: How do search engines decide on their rankings?

A: IMPORTANT: You cannot pay a search engine in return for a high ranking in the natural results. You can only get a high ranking if your content is seen as relevant by the search engines.

Search engines identify relevant content for their search results by sending out spiders or robots which crawl (analyze) your site and index (record) its details. Complex algorithms are then employed to determine whether your site is useful and should be included in the search engines search results.

Q: Can't I just pay for a high ranking?

A: No. The biggest concern for search engine companies like Google and Yahoo is finding content that will bring them more traffic (and thus more advertising revenue). In other words, their results must be relevant. Relevant results makes for a good search engine; irrelevant results makes for a short-lived search engine.

Most search engines these days return two types of results whenever you click Search:

  • Natural/Organic The real search results. The results that most users are looking for and which take up most of the window. For most searches, the search engine displays a long list of links to sites with content which is related to the word you searched for. These results are ranked according to how relevant and important they are.
  • Paid Pure advertising. This is how the search engines make their money. Advertisers pay the search engines to display their ad whenever someone searches for a word which is related to their product or service. These ads look similar to the natural search results, but are normally labeled Sponsored Links, and normally take up a smaller portion of the window.

Q: How do I get a high ranking?

A: There are four main steps:

Step 1 - Use the right words on your website
Step 2 - Get lots of relevant sites to link to yours
Step 3 - Use the right words in those links
Step 4 - Have lots of content on your site & add more regularly

Q: What is search engine optimization (SEO)?

A: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the art of creating a website which is search engine-friendly. This means:

  • using the right words in your copy
  • using the right words in your HTML code
  • structuring your site properly
  • designing your site properly

For more information on these 4 elements, download our free 'SEO Secrets' eBook from divinewrite.com/seosecrets.htm.

Many people use SEO to also describe the other ingredient in a high ranking, 'Link Popularity'.

Q: What is link popularity?

A: Think of the search engines as a big election. All the websites in the world are candidates. The links to your website are votes. The more votes (links) a candidate (website) has, the more important it is, and the higher its ranking. Link popularity is all about how many links you have, and how you can get more.

Links to your site tell the search engines how important your site is. They assume that if its important enough for a lot of other sites to link to, its important enough for them to display at the top of the rankings. Links are the single most important factor in ranking. Generally speaking, the more links you have to your site from other sites, the better your ranking.

Q: Are some links better than others?

A: Yes! The ideal kind of links are those that:

  • come from relevant sites (sites which use the same keywords);
  • come from important sites (have a high ranking);
  • include your keyword as part of the visible link text;
  • include varying link text (not the same link text each time); and
  • come from a page that links to few other sites.

When a search engine sees a link which satisfies most or all of these conditions, it says, Hey, this site must be credible and important, because others in the same industry are pointing to it.

Q: How do I get lots of links back to my site?

A: There are many possible ways to generate links. Some are dubious (like auto-generation software, and sites set up by webmasters simply to host links to their other sites) and I wont be discussing them here. Others, like those discussed below, are legitimate.

  • Add your site to DMOZ & Yahoo Directories (and other free directories)
  • Check where your competitors links are coming from
  • Article PR - Write and submit articles for Internet publication
  • Swap links
  • Partner websites
  • Pay for links

For more information on these methods, download our free 'SEO Secrets' eBook from divinewrite.com/seosecrets.htm.

Q: What do you think is the best way to get lots of links?

A: Article PR. Write helpful articles and let other webmasters publish them for free in exchange for a link in the byline. With article PR, you don't have to pay for the link, you determine the content of the page containing the link, you determine the link text, and the link is more or less permanent. A single article can be reprinted hundreds of times, and each time is another link back to your site! For more information, read divinewrite.com/seoarticles.htm or visit ArticlePR.com.

Q: How do I write a good article PR piece?

A: See divinewrite.com/seoarticles.htm.

Q: How do I get a high ranking using free reprint content?

A: See divinewrite.com/Top_Ranking_Free.htm.

Q: How long does it take to get a high search engine ranking?

A: A long time! Its impossible to say how much time youll need to spend generating links, but you can be sure itll be a while no matter which method of link generation you use. You just have to keep at it until you have achieved a high ranking. Even then, youll still need to dedicate some ongoing time to the task, otherwise your ranking will drop.

Q: What is the Google Sandbox, and is it real?

A: The Google Sandbox theory suggest that whenever Google detects a new website, it withholds its rightful ranking for a period while it determines whether your site is a genuine, credible, long term site. It does this to discourage the creation of SPAM websites (sites which serve no useful purpose other than to boost the ranking of some other site).

There is a lot of anecdotal evidence supporting the theory, but there is also a lot discounting it. No one has categorically proven its existence.

Q: What is the Google Dampening Link Filter, and is it real?

A: The Google Dampening Link Filter theory suggests that if Google detects a sudden increase (i.e. many hundreds or thousands) in the number of links back to your site, it may sandbox them for a period (or in fact penalize you by lowering your ranking or blacklisting your site altogether).

There is a lot of anecdotal evidence supporting the theory, but there is also a lot discounting it. No one has categorically proven its existence.

Q: What SEO companies should I be wary of?

A: Be wary of SEO companies that promise or guarantee results in a given timeframe, especially if they won't expand on their methods for generating links back to your site.

Q: What tools can you recommend?

A: There are many very useful tools to help with your SEO. The following are just selection. All tools are free unless otherwise indicated.

Q: I'm confused about all the terms used in SEO, can you help?

A: See divinewrite.com/seo_glossary.htm.

Q: What is keyword analysis?

A: The first thing you need to do when you begin chasing a good search engine ranking is decide which words you want to rank well for. This is called performing a keyword analysis. Keyword analysis involves a bit of research and a good knowledge of your business and the benefits you offer your customers. For more information, download our free 'SEO Secrets' eBook from divinewrite.com/seosecrets.htm.

Q: Do I need to submit my site to the search engines?

A: Theoretically, no. But I wouldn't risk not doing it - especially as it's free. As soon as you register your domain name, submit it to Google! Even if you havent built your site, or thought about your content, submit your domain name to Google. In fact, even if you havent fully articulated your business plan and marketing plan, submit your domain name to Google.

For more information, download our free 'SEO Secrets' eBook from divinewrite.com/seosecrets.htm.

Q: Should I submit my site to the search engines more than once?

A: No need. Although some of the search engines allow you to do this, there's really no need.

Q: What are directories and should I submit my site to them?

A: Directories are websites (or web pages) which simply list lots of website and give a quick description of the website. Some are free and some require you to pay for a listing. Free directories are useful because you get a free link. However, the links aren't worth that much. Paid directories can be good if they're relevant, but they can cost a lot in the long term, so choose wisely.

One essential directories for any website is the DMOZ Open Directory Project.

Handy Tips To Improve Your Search Engine Rankings

This article will focus on some tops tips which you can apply quickly and simply to increase your visibility in the search engines. These are just basic steps but even on their own can have a fairly dramatic affect on your rankings.

As we are looking at quick and easy tips these will mostly be concerned with on-page ranking factors.

Page URL
Having your keywords present in your URL have a great affect on your ranking scores. It gives you a serious advantage in achieving a high ranking. Of course it's not always easy to get the domain name you want but you should certainly consider this if possible - however don't change an existing established domain name.

Titles
These are in between the tags at the top of your page. Make sure your main keywords are in the title (the words you want to rank highly in). Try to keep a minimum of text here but make the title appealing to encourage clicks. Keep the title tags unique for each page on your site.

The title tags are important for all the search engines so spend some time getting them right!

Keyword Usage
Try to focus on specific targeted keywords on each web page (remember search engines rank pages not web sites). Try to repeat the keywords where relevant within the page - don't overuse as each engine has a different threshold of keyword variance. It is estimated that about 6-7% usage on a web page is optimum but only if the text makes sense.

URL Structure
URL structure is an often neglected SEO practice. It's worth doing as it brings long term benefits to your web site. Try to keep urls as simple and targeted as possible particularly avoid long, complicated dynamic urls if you can. Make sure they contain some of your keywords. If you're building a site from scratch that's the easiest time to get these right.

Site Map

Article Writing - Language Skills and Sentence Structure and How this Relates to Reader Perception

If you are an online article author then you need to watch your sentence structure and use of the English Language if you wish to be taken seriously. Now then lets talk about your Language Skills and Sentence Structure and how this affects the reader's perception of your expert status.

Obviously if you botch the language, sentence structure and spelling few will take you seriously, thus it makes sense no matter how great your knowledge base is or the information in your article, such mechanics do make a real impact on the reader.

The reason I bring this topic up is that as the leading authority on Online Article Writing with some 11,111 articles online now it makes sense for me to comment on this subject after it became topic on the top online article submission website. The question was posed:

Does the quality of your English & sentence structure/mechanics impact your level of perceived market authority?

Interestingly enough sometimes a too-polished article will drive some Internet Surfers away, while it may very well attract more serious prospects to you. Currently, we see the English Language is being utterly destroyed by Instant Messaging and Text Messaging.

With this new paradigm, sentence structure and spelling may not be so important to everyone, but it certainly will not hurt you to write a quality article if you are looking for those serious few who are truly interested buyers. Perhaps you might consider this thought, when writing your articles.
