7 Mistakes That Will Kill Your Article

Article writing has become, in the last few years one of the most effective ways to get qualified visitors to your web site. The article though, must be able to grab the readers attention and be informative enough to leave the reader with a feeling of having learned something. There are 7 mistakes that you can make which will actually kill your article. Along with not grabbing the readers attention and not being informative, spelling and grammar mistakes, the use of keywords, Plagiarizing, self promotion, and miss use of the resource box will all kill an article. In this article I will explain these mistakes in some detail and ways to avoid them.

First of all you need a title that will grab the readers attention. You want the reader to want to read through your article. Most people are so busy these days that they just skim through to see if there is anything worth reading. Nice catchy titles that start with for example "The 5 Reasons You Should...", "10 Ways To Improve Your...". You get the idea. Once You get them interested with the title, you then want to give them some informative content. something they can take away from the article.

Secondly, the content of your article must have something of value for the reader to stay interested. The content must be informative and educational, give the reader something they didn't know before they read the article. You do not have to be an expert just, Know what you are writing about and do not make the topic to broad, the reader will lose interest quickly. You should also include some well placed key words in your content.

The third mistake is the miss use of key words. You want to use a key word density of 1-3%. You do not want to saturate your article with key words. Search engines will not frown on you if you stay with in the 1-3 % density. It is when you go well beyond the 1-3% that the search engines start to see your article as being auto written. You don't want to have them give you a bad reputation so it's wise to stay within the percentages.

The fourth mistake is a self promoting article. An article that is full of hype and self promotion is transparent and a big turn off to experienced marketers. Those types of articles never get read and surely never get downloaded to other peoples sites, newsletters and e-zines. Self promoting should be left for your personal website or your ads. Stay away from self promoting in your articles. Any kind of promoting of your site or product should be in your resource box.

The fifth mistake is plagiarizing, using someone else's original article as your own. In writing articles original content is the best way to go. If you do not know too much about the subject you want to write about than do some research and take notes. From your notes you can format your article and expand from there. If you like someone's article that you see in a directory you can use it as long as you include the resource box at the end of the article and keep in tact. You must give the original author credit when ever you use their articles.

Number six naturally is resource boxes. These must be used wisely. Do not put too much in this box. This is where you let the reader know who you are, what you do, and where your website is located. You do not want to get to crazy with this because too much can turn a person off. And the whole point of the article is to get the reader interested in who you are so that they can go to your resource box and click on the link to your website. Make sure though that your spelling is correct. You do not want to go through all the trouble of writing a good article and than misspell your website address.

The seventh and probably the most important mistake that is made is that article writers do not use that handy little button on their tool bar that says "SPELL CHECK". It does not matter how good you are at writing. You should always use the spell checker. A Well written article with no spelling or grammar mistakes will show the readers that you are a professional and you care about the product that you put out. After all an article that you write is a product that you put out.

Articles are fun to write and they do bring quality visitors to your website if they are done correctly. Making sure that you do not commit any of these seven mistakes will insure that you write a good quality article that people will want to read. Have fun and may your article writing be a success.

The Importance Of META Tags

Meta tags are used to add information to the HTTP header of a webpage. It also contains hidden information in the coding that the search engines will pick up on. Example: author's name, title of web site and "keywords" Meta tags can help improve your placement in search engines and can therefore help increase traffic to your Web site. Most likely, if your site does not have "keywords" in the head of your html code, the engines will not find your website.

Choosing your keywords carefully: Choosing the keywords used in your meta tags are very important. If you do not choose the proper keywords, submitting your site to the search engines will be useless, because those keywords are major factors in determining how a site visitor will locate your site in the engines. Lets take a look from the searcher's point a view...

A searcher goes to Google, Yahoo or Excite, looking for topics or products relating to what your company (or site) is offering. He comes up with 10 to 20 search results on the first page of the engine. Your company listing is no where to be found. After skipping to the next 3 page results . . . Your company is still no where to be found. Why? Most likely you have not inserted the most effective keywords relevant to your website. Example: You have decided to insert your companies name in your "keyword" meta tags, instead of listing your products or services in your keywords. Searchers do not look for company names, unless they are looking for a specific major company on the web.

Tips on choosing the most effective keywords or phrases for your webpage. Start with using General Keywords, then by adding specific keywords. Example: Your company is selling CD's. Take the general keyword of "CD's" and add a specific title or word to it, based on the CD's your are offering. So, your keyword phrases may be "CD's for Clay Aiken" or even the title of the CD "Measure Of A Man"

List your main products, services or purpose, that surfers will use in their keyword search.

If not selling products, then list a specific topic relating to your sites content in your keywords.

On your website index or home page, be sure to include specific phrases or topics, that a searcher may use to look for your site in the engines. (The engines may pickup on these words in your sites content).

Consider regional keywords- If your company or site only caters within specific locations, you may want to list this in your meta tags. Example: If you have a company only sells products within your state or city, be sure to list the city or state in your meta tags. If your site ships products anywhere in the world, state global distribution in your meta tags.

Choose the most effective title for your webpage. (keep in mind that visitors will be searching for specific topics in their search, not the name of your company). Exception: (If they are looking for a major company or name brand item, song, book, etc.). Meta Tags with Frame pages: Did you know that search engines often times do not pickup "keywords" used in frame sites? Most engines do not support frame sites. It is suggested that you have an "Introduction or home page" (for your index page), which does not use frames, before entering a site with frames. This way the search engines will pick up on your meta tags and you will have a higher chance of your "intro/index page" showing up in the search engines.

Breakthrough Article Marketing - Discover 3 Key Secrets to Jumpstart Your Article Marketing

Nervous about starting your article marketing campaign? Don't be! Because technically, you have got nothing to lose in this technique. So long as you know how to produce quality articles or you have the resources to pay somebody to do it for you, you will surely rise above the rest. Here are the 3 key secrets to jumpstart your article marketing:

1. Do your research. What are the topics to write about? Well, the best topics for you are those that concern your potential clients and are relevant to the products or services you offer. Some of the best article marketers go to forums and they communicate to their potential buyers. Through this, marketers will get an idea about the pressing issues that their customers are facing. Then, they create articles based on the data they gathered and present their products as solution. This is a foolproof method in making sure that your articles are targeted to your chosen niche.

2. Consider some important elements when writing your articles. This is to make sure that your articles will be accepted by most publishing sites. Make sure that you don't use too many keywords or your articles will be rejected for keyword abuse. Also, make your articles at least 250 words and ensure that all links on your resource box are working. Lastly, never insert hyperlinks on the body of your articles. This is one of the common reasons why articles are rejected by publishing sites.

3. Write articles that are easy to understand. Your success in article marketing will largely depend on how well your readers can understand you. So make it a point that you make it easier for them to digest the information you are presenting. To do this, you can use various formats like questions and answer, how-tos, and numbered list when presenting your ideas.

Rethinking Your Marketing Strategies - 3 Common Sense Approach to Advertising

Printing services is part and parcel of experiencing the entrepreneurial life. It is part of learning to strategize your advertising to reach a wider demographic while targeting those who have longer attention span to listen to a more in-depth discussion.

The challenge of advertising is seldom just design related or making catchy slogan. It's largely about interpreting what your customer's want from your services and the level of conversation they need to attain from your marketing materials.

Take for example the fact that despite the marketing principle of short and catchy slogan, the best performing print ads are those that offer in-depth analysis of the products. These short and catchy slogans may catch interest, but how far do they go in converting these interests to sales?

When you want to make the most of these longer attention span customers and their need for information, use the following print ads:

1. Market to Your Market:

Many advertisers with big funds and short catchy phrases can afford to advertise to mainstream audience and get low response rates. Small businesses on the other should market to a small target group with a higher response rates.

The more interested the customer is in your product, the more likely he is to read through what you have to say. The longer they read the more chances you have of convincing them to make the purchase. Do your customers the service of placing as much information as you can into your print materials.

Just think about the nearly 3,000 advertisements you've seen today and which of them actually stuck? If the product doesn't meet your need, does repeating cheap and reliable service make it stand out more on the thousandth time it was mentioned? Or was it equally forgettable as the 31st time you've heard of it?

2. Start a Conversation:

If you want to put up outdoor advertising, be sure you can follow it up with additional materials people can look to for more information. The best way to do this is to set-up a website people can go to for more information. They can even use to enroll to your mailing list where they get occasional updates.

You should have content laden website people can browse through for more information. Instead of dictating information to them, the website is a good way for people to customize their own experience going to pages they find helpful and totally neglecting those that they think irrelevant.

3. Respect Your Customers Intelligence

People born to mass media can always screen out advertisements that are condescending to their ability to think logically and intelligently. On the other hand, they reward those who choose to engage them in intelligent conversations.

Many consumers are growing more critical of advertisements that are more fluff and style than substance. They may want high quality posters and full colors from your printing services, but they want it to support your content. When you focus too much on style, the message it sends is clear: you would rather spend time and money on marketing that improving on your craft.

Getting Down To The Basics Of Article Marketing

Article marketing is a good way for you to not only get the word out on your business, but on your skills as a writer as well. The problem with many writers nowadays is that they either swing toward all great content but no real engaging writing, or pure fun writing without any real content. You will need to catch yourself in the balance of either type of good writing, and in dearth of other good writers who do not have your skills, you can make a lot of money by writing online content. All you need to do is to have sample articles online.

There are many ways for you to market your articles. First, there are article marketplaces, where you can pick topics to write on, and where you can post articles that you have written so that people can choose you to write for their next gig. Such article marketplaces will contain large amounts of writing content on various topics, and you can choose topics on which to write on. The problem with article marketplaces is that your article will not sell itself, and you need to be able to market your site within the article marketplace so that you are ensured of clients at the end of your working day.

Another way for you to literally market your writing skills is to put up a blog, and then have it listed in the directories of major search engines. This can be a difficult, tedious process, especially where the marketing and getting the word out is concerned. However, you can make the process much faster by linking to other blogs that have almost the same content as yours, and you can make new friends by blog hopping and promising reciprocal linkages. Blog hopping can also work to your advantage: you can find a lot of good topics to write about and get more writing ideas from your friends' blogs.

Yet another way for you to enjoy your blogging experience while earning from it is through paid blogging. Some blogging companies pay for each post that you make, and you only need to sign up for gigs, and then bid on them. The problem with such a set up is that you need to be constantly up and about looking for topics that interest you and that you can write about, because such marketplaces can be crowded, and people will be scrambling to be the first to write a topic. You may want to have articles ready for the bidding process, since many people who commission articles also would like to see samples of your work.

Be careful about posting your articles online, however. Not all companies welcome having their articles posted on another site, so you might be violating a few copyright laws if you are not careful. Moreover, be careful with how you write your articles, especially if you are just starting out: go through manuals of style and be meticulous in correcting your grammar; always run your spell check, and, when in doubt, consult a dictionary. Nothing marks a good writer more than being careful with how one writes. Of course, being engaging should be thrown into the bargain, but no matter how engaging and content-rich a work is, it will be off putting to see grammatical and typographical errors.

These are only a few tips that you may want to follow when doing article marketing. For more information, talk to article marketing experts on how you can improve your craft and get the income that you want.

Article Marketing 101 For Affiliate Program Managers

This article is for Affiliate Program Managers: Interested in increasing the amount of revenue that each of your affiliates creates for your business? Read on to learn about how to use your existing articles to grow your affiliate program strength.

From an affiliate perspective, there are only a few 'deal breaker' type things that I insist any affiliate program that I join must provide me:

  • Real-time reporting statistics
  • Real-time email alerts upon each sale
  • Payment on a consistent monthly basis
  • High price-point products
  • Package of articles that I can reprint on my websites and ezines
  • One strategy that many newbie affiliate program designers fail to offer is a package of articles that can be reprinted on my website along with my unique affiliate link. Of the tens of thousands of dollars I'll do this year as an affiliate, you would be shocked at how much of the revenue comes directly from reprinting articles of the affiliate programs I am involved in. This strategy works for me and it can work for you!

    Here's what to do:

  • Designate 10, 25, 50, 75 or 100 articles that will be made available to your affiliates as a dump (meaning all at once and immediately).
  • Provide them with 3-10 articles per month thereafter that they can reprint along with their affiliate link.
  • Be certain to spell out the reprint rights of this type of affiliate article marketing so that your articles don't show up on bad websites you wouldn't want to associate with.
  • Here's what NOT to do:

  • Allow your articles to be private labeled. This is a poor strategy and will dilute your credibility. They should carry your name or the name of your primary author brand.
  • Don't give out all of your articles for your affiliates to use. Best to designate a specific "lot" of them that can be used by your affiliates and the rest are yours to keep exclusively for your direct sales audience.
  • Why this type of article marketing is important for affiliate program managers and affiliates:

Articles are like "sales agents" in that they keep selling for you, day after day, year after year. They also help expand your reach as each article gets indexed by the major search engines. Lastly, they give you another reason to send an email to your list members about the articles available.

This is a credibility builder for the affiliate program manager and it's a "Give" before the "Take" which begins the reciprocation cycle in a positive direction.

Note For Affiliates Who Use Articles To Promote Their Affiliate Programs:

Some sites (like ours at http://EzineArticles.com/ ) don't accept articles that promote affiliate programs, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go find other sites that do accept articles that promote affiliate program links. I really meant this article to speak directly to affiliate program managers and not the needs of affiliate marketers.

To save you the trouble of sending me an email to ask why EzineArticles.com doesn't accept articles that promote affiliate programs, there are three reasons:

    1) Because we don't accept articles that are available on a non-exclusive basis (meaning we only want to see original or exclusive licensed content) and...

    2) Because affiliate marketers are not our ideal author profile type and...

    3) Because most ezine publishers don't want to reprint articles that pitch an affiliate link. One of the primary purposes of our site is to be a resource for ezine publishers to find supplemental content for their next email newsletter.

With that said, there are plenty of competitor article sites that will allow you to submit your affiliate-link-laced articles, not to mention listing them on your own website.

Bottom line: If you offer an affiliate program to promote your products and services, consider immediately offering a package of articles that your affiliates can add to their website or send to their email newsletter lists to further promote your business.

How To Optimize Your Web Site For Ask

While Ask's share of the search market is comparatively small, it offers some great features that are sure to catch on. Consider grabbing a good ranking now before the word gets out and a tidal wave of webmasters start clamoring for top spots.

When Google "introduced" its universal search model, it grabbed tons of press for its "innovation". Coincidentally, Ask has been using a universal search model since day one. So here's a great place to get your feet wet and, shall I say, "practice" for optimizing for universal search. Consider these tips:

    • Optimizing images for Ask's universal search model is a little more complex than simply adding an alt tag. Yes, you still need to use an alt tag, and the alt tag should contain the target keyword. But in addition, the image's actual filename should also contain the keyword AND the page text near the image should include the keyword.

    • Create an account at Bloglines and add your blogs and feeds to your profile. Unlike most of their competitors, ranking in Ask Blogs is determined by relevance, not date. So be sure to maximize all your blog posts for your keyword phrases. Another feature of Ask Blogs is the ability to sort by popularity, so stickiness and incoming links become extremely important.

    • Ask Mobile is a neat feature that provides mobile users with search results by reformatting websites into one column. Ask Mobile returns local search results to cell phone users (genius, isn't it?), so be sure to include your address with city, state and zip on every page of your site to improve your possibility of being listed. And get yourself listed in Ask City by sending an email to askcitybusiness@help.ask.com. The email should contain the subject Ask City Feedback - Business and should include your business name and full address, your area code and phone number, your web address, your business category, your name and email address. Expect about one month before your listing in Ask City is approved.

    • Be sure to submit your sitemap to Ask to ensure your site is thoroughly crawled. Without a sitemap, chances are your deep content will not be indexed by Ask. Put your sitemap in your root folder and add it to your robots.txt file. Then submit it to Ask by typing the following into your browser: http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http://www.YOUR-URL.com/sitemap.xml. Obviously, replace YOUR-URL with your own web address.

    • Ask provides users with a website preview, so they can glance at the site before clicking the link. To guarantee maximum click throughs, make sure your best content is above the fold and that your site preview looks compelling.

How Do You Boost Your Online Marketing Strategies?

It comes as no surprise that there are many online marketing strategies being offered for a wide audience. From the novice marketer to the expert marketer. Marketing strategies are a universe as a topic and strategic internet marketing, although very young, is vast indeed.

It gets very expensive to sample all the strategies and test if they fit into your business plan, if you have one. In this article we will focus on taking the first steps well so that we stay on budget. For that you need to do some assessments.

The first critical assessment that is recommended is deciding what your goals are. What do you want to achieve? You need to take this step because it gives you the big picture before you go down to the nuts and bolts of building your successful business or adding to an already established one. This overview design keeps you from getting lost and ending up in another job that you hate, running your own business or a very expensive product launch.

Once you made your goals, you need your mission statement. We are here for you or something similar. It defines your business and also gives you your target niche and your marketing direction.

Note: The product is not important in your marketing. Your customer is. You are concerned with marketing something that moves customers to buying, feelings. We never buy things that make us feel horrible no matter how good the product is for us.

Note: You need to keep your ego, accomplishments, YOURSELF out of all your marketing. It may hurt your feelings, tough. Customers tune into the only radio station worth their time, W.I.I.F.M. (Whats In It For Me?) You need to broadcast on that radio frequency or rather pack your bags and invest your capital in a mutual trust.

Marketing is basically a tool-set. It can be used to achieve any goal. Know the goal and you understand what to look for in the market of choice. There are many online-marketing strategies but few marketing training programs which take you through the process of selecting the appropriate tool set to use to reach your marketing goal.

The second assessment is to define your niche further and asses how best to reach them. And tell them in W.I.I.F.M. language that you brought them the answer thats going to make them ecstatic. When you are presenting this product using your mission statement, consistent image and using W.I.I.F.M. language, customers will read, watch and listen to your message diligently.

You MUST retain consistency of your marketing, thats why it must tie in with your mission statement. Consistency builds security and security builds trust and trusts negates product and price. Your marketing must make them happy just as they are buying and even buyers remorse will be low too.

How To Find Inspiration For Article Marketing

While writing articles for Article Marketing, I have often ran into the writers block wall. I would also bet that you have faced this same problem more than once.

It seems the more topics we try to write on or the more we try to write on any single topic, the more often this comes up.

Even for the person just starting out there is the nagging question "What niche topic can I write about?"

Over a period of time I have come up with some simple solutions. They are simple because first I have changed my way of thinking.

You probably have been told to find an affiliate program that you want to market or some other program and then you write about that topic. I call this the force feed program because it forces you to write on a given topic.

If you want to add a few bricks to the writers block wall this is a great way to do it.

I have found it far easier to find a topic that thrills me at the moment and write an article about it.

The article seems to flow out a lot easier than if I try to force it and this makes my Article Marketing effort a lot less stressful.

After I have completed the Article or Articles on the topic, I find an Affiliate Program that fit's the article.

I have run across topics to write about standing in line at the local grocery store viewing the magazines and newspapers that they put on the racks at check out. The evening news has never failed to provide me with something to write about.

What if you are looking for something along other lines like travel destinations. Your local Chamber of Commerce is a great resource.

Never overlook your Small Business Administration office, they can be a wealth of information for Article Marketing.

Be sure to use Local Clubs and Organizations as great information sources to inspire what you write on.

If you change how you view your Article Marketing efforts and keep your eyes and ears open, you should not have to face writers block ever again.

While taking a couple days off to enjoy time with my family, I found at least enough information to write dozens of articles and to greatly add to my Article Marketing efforts.

Optimize Your Article - The Forgotten Strategy

It's well known that article directory submissions are a great way to promote your site. But most people aren't taking full advantage of this powerful promotional strategy. One of the best ways to use articles to increase traffic to your site and move your page rank up is to fully optimize them. Below are some tips that I use to achieve success online when writing articles.

    1. Don't just write an article and send it out blindly and hope that you will gain good results from it. Would you take out a shotgun, close your eyes and hope that one of the pellets hits something worthwhile during hunting season?

Watch your articles. Monitoring what happens with them, you may notice that some topics seem more popular than others. This is useful information. Once you know what people like, write more articles on that topic.

    2. Track the content web sites that give you the most traffic, you can do this by logging into your web site control panel and check which URLs are sending the most traffic through your articles.

Take notes of the top 5-8 directories. Keep it in mind to send in good quality, informative articles to them on a regular basis for publishing. That way you should be able to use these web sites to drive traffic to your web site up a notch or two.

    3. Another often overlooked way to promote your site and increase traffic, is to look at your statistics and find out what keywords are being used the most to find your site. Research these keywords and find out where you rank in the search engines for them. If you are not in the top 10 results then write another article about the topic. To optimize your article even further, try creating your own keyword anchor text links in the resource box that back link to the page that you want to show up in the results.

For example, if you have a web site called www.Ilovemybaby.com and your keyword is 'baby skirt', you can create your resource box as www.Ilovemybaby.com/babyskirt. This will be beneficial because of the increased incoming links to the page will give it a higher ranking and potentially put your article in the top 10 for that term, leading to even more traffic to your site.

Web site tracking is one of the most important components for monitoring your web site. Ultimately, by using tracking to your advantage, you can make your site a success. The same applies to article marketing. Optimize your articles and you will benefit from the results greatly.

Article Directories And Directory Submission Guidelines I

The directory submission guidelines of the various article directories are a frequently ignored part of article marketing, especially when submissions are being made automatically by software or subscription sites.

You must read the submission guidelines of every individual article directory, and make sure that your article conforms to them. Failure to do this could result in your article being rejected, and this could have an effect future submissions. Not only this, but you should be aware of each directorys policy on HTML formatting that varies from directory to directory. Let us examine some typical article directory submission guidelines

Unless they are specialized directories, submissions should normally be made in English. Some directories are specifically designed for non-English languages and if you intend to write in a language other than English first carry out a search for suitable directories and their scope of publication. Some may limit the topics and other may be published in only a limited number of countries. However, even if your native language is English, it might be worthwhile having your article translated into another language in order to extend your exposure in countries such as China.

You generally must not submit the same article multiple times to different categories. This is spam and not only will your article not be published, but all of your articles could be banned from specific directories.

Some directories allow URLs to be included in the body of the article and others only in the bio box, often called the authors resource box. Some directories allow several URLs, and some only one. If the directory does not allow any, then do not use it since you have no way of advertising your website!

    Improve Your Search Engine Rankings

So you've decided to create a Web site. The first thing you'll want to think about is search engine optimization. Using proper SEO will ensure your site gets great placement in search engine results. You can hire someone to help you or use SEO yourself.

Here are some tips on improving your search engine rankings:

    1. Select and use strong keywords. You'll want your content to be rich with keywords, but don't go overboard. If you use too many keywords search engines will pick up on it and your site won't rise in the rankings. If you use too many keywords, your site could be excluded altogether.

    2. Compare to other sites. You'll want to see what those with great placement are doing on their sites. Search for sites that are similar to yours. Take a look at the sites that have received high placement in the search results. While on the web page select "view" and click "source." This will give you the opportunity to analyze the keywords and tags that were used.

    3. Use keyword tools. A keyword tool is helpful in determining how visitors search for sites related to yours. By using a keyword tool you'll be able to see how many hits a site would get using certain search terms. You can use the popular search terms you find to get better search engine placement.

    4. Have working links. Make sure all the links on your web site work. If you have dead links on your site, it negatively effects your site's placement in search engine results.

    5. Submit your site to directories. There are several free directories you where you can submit your site. Others charge a fee. Don't overlook paying this fee though because this increases your changes of having search engines list your site.

    6. Create a sitemap. Creating a sitemap and submitting it to search engines will guarantee that all the pages of your site will be included when the search engines crawl the site. You can use a free program to create a sitemap.

    7. Create backlinks. It can take awhile for search engines to find your Web site. One way to promote it is by using backlinks. Backlinks are links that point back to your web site from a different web site. Ways you can get backlinks are to write articles related to your site's topic and submit them to free article sources such as Ezine Articles. At the end of the article, write a little bit about yourself as an author and link to your site.

    8. Use reciprocal links. Find sites that are related to yours and ask the web site owner to place a link to your site on their site. In return you'll do the same. You can contact sites that are complementary to yours. For example, if you have a site that sells a variety of hats, you can have links placed on sites that sell coats and jackets. You can get in contact with the web site owner by looking for the contact information on the site. Send an email and ask for a reciprocal link.
